OPTIMALISASI PROSES BALLASTING DAN DEBALLASTING DI TANGKI BALLAST MV DK 03
Abstract
The ballasting and deballasting process is an important operational activity that plays a role in maintaining the stability and safety of the ship during the voyage. This study aims to analyze the factors that cause the ballasting and deballasting process to be not optimal and the efforts made to optimize it on MV. DK 03. The research method used is descriptive qualitative method with data collection techniques in the form of observation, interviews, and documentation related to the ballast system. The results showed that the ballasting and deballasting process was not maximized due to several factors, including ballast pipe leakage due to corrosion, damage or congestion in the ballast valve, and decreased ballast pump performance. These factors are interrelated and have a direct impact on ship stability, operational efficiency, and increase Crew workload in managing ship balance. The efforts made to overcome these problems are routine maintenance of the ballast system, installation of zinc anodes as protection against corrosion in ballast pipes and tanks, inspection and repair of ballast valves, and proper handling of ballast pump damage. By implementing these efforts in a consistent and integrated manner, it is expected that the ballasting and deballasting process can run more effectively, safely, and be able to support ship stability during shipping activities.
