“IMPLEMENTASI ESCAPE ROOM EDUKATIF BERBASIS EKSPERIMEN UNTUK MENINGKATKAN HASIL BELAJAR MURID KELAS V SD PADA MATERI SIFAT-SIFAT CAHAYA”
Abstract
The properties of light are abstract concepts that are difficult for elementary students to understand, and students often hold misconceptions about them. An initial diagnostic assessment of fifth-grade students showed a class mean of 66.33, with only 33.33% of students reaching the minimum score of 76. This classroom action research aimed to describe the implementation of an experiment-based educational escape room and to determine its effect on improving the learning outcomes of fifth-grade students on the properties of light. The study followed the Kemmis and McTaggart model in three cycles, each consisting of planning, acting, observing, and reflecting, and involved 15 fifth-grade students at SDN Kertajaya I/207 Surabaya in the 2026/2027 academic year. Each station of the escape room was designed as an experiment, so that students obtained the code to open the final lock only after observing and analyzing their results. Data were collected through a written test (complex multiple choice, C4–C5), observations, and documentation, and were analyzed descriptively. The mean knowledge score increased from 66.33 in the initial condition to 76.33, 86.33, and 89.67 in cycles I, II, and III, while classical mastery rose from 33.33% to 40%, 66.67%, and 86.67%. The attitude score increased from 9.08 to 11.25 (maximum 12), the skill score from 57.67 to 87, and the implementation of the escape room from 70% to 90%. It can be concluded that the experiment-based educational escape room improves the learning outcomes of fifth-grade students on the properties of light.
