GAMBARAN MOTIVASI BELAJAR MURID PADA PENERAPAN MODEL KOOPERATIF TIPE STAD BERBANTUAN PERCOBAAN SEDERHANA DALAM PEMBELAJARAN IPAS DI SEKOLAH DASAR

Abstract

Learning motivation in Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS) tends to be low when the material is abstract and cannot be observed directly, as in the topic of human respiratory diseases. This study aimed to describe the implementation of the Student Teams Achievement Division (STAD) cooperative learning model assisted by a simple experiment, to describe students’ learning motivation, and to identify supporting and inhibiting factors. A descriptive qualitative approach was used with 30 sixth-grade students at SDN 232 Blok Sawah, Bandung, over two meetings on 15 and 16 September 2026. Data were collected through observation, interviews, an ARCS-based motivation questionnaire, a quiz, field notes, and documentation, and analyzed through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results show that students were actively involved, worked in heterogeneous groups, and showed enthusiasm during a simple experiment simulating a smoker’s lungs. The questionnaire yielded a mean score of 3.48 on a four-point scale (87.1%), with satisfaction as the highest dimension and relevance as the lowest. All students scored above 70 on the quiz, and 86.7% scored 85 or higher. Supporting factors were the availability of simple teaching aids, the teacher’s skills, and the giving of awards, whereas inhibiting factors were technical, such as a noisy experiment location. Students’ learning motivation is described as high during the implementation. However, because the study had no pre-treatment data, the findings describe the final condition and do not indicate an increase in motivation.
