PENERAPAN GAYA SELINGKUNG DALAM ARTIKEL BERITA MEDIA TEMPO
Abstract
This study aims to (1) identify the varieties of Tempo’s house style in news articles and (2) examine the role of language editing in maintaining the consistency of the house style in Tempo media. This research employed a qualitative approach using Norman Fairclough’s Critical Discourse Analysis method. The research data consisted of 25 lexical data found in Tempo news articles and were analyzed based on the internal editorial language guidelines and the Sixth Edition of the Enhanced Indonesian Spelling System (EYD). Data collection techniques were conducted through library research and documentation, while data analysis was carried out by identifying, classifying, and interpreting the forms of house style found in news texts. The findings reveal that Tempo’s house style is constructed through four main characteristics, namely consistency in word formation, indigenization of foreign terms, the use of everyday conversational language, and language logic combined with social sensitivity. These characteristics can be seen in the use of words such as “penghiliran,” “pembetonan,” “subyek,” “mengkonfirmasi,” “tapi,” “makin,” “kepincut,” “perempuan,” and “pekerja seks.” Furthermore, the results indicate that language editing plays a significant role in maintaining the consistency of diction, word forms, and the characteristics of Tempo’s journalistic language. Through its internal language guidelines, Tempo constructs a media linguistic identity that is concise, communicative, logical, and closely related to everyday spoken language. Therefore, Tempo’s house style functions not only as a technical writing guideline but also as a representation of language ideology and journalistic identity in the media.
