PENINGKATAN HISTORICAL THINKING PADA SISWA MELALUI PEMANFAATAN MEDIA PEMBELAJARAN BERBASIS DIGITAL PADA TEMA “JAS MERAH” DI SMA

Abstract

History education in senior high schools (SMA) is often perceived as a subject overly focused on rote memorization specifically dates and historical figures thereby hindering the optimal development of students' historical thinking skills. Meanwhile, the characteristics of students as "digital natives" necessitate innovations in more interactive learning media. This article examines how the use of digital-based learning media can foster historical thinking among high school students, centering on the theme "Jas Merah" (derived from the Kesatuan Aksi 66 slogan based on President Sukarno's final speech: "Never Abandon History"/Jangan Sekali-kali Meninggalkan Sejarah, delivered on August 17, 1966), which underscores the importance of historical awareness to the nation's identity. The study employs a literature review of national and international scholarly articles regarding digital-based history education and the concept of historical thinking. The findings indicate that digital media such as archives, photographs, historical documentaries, and social media platforms can facilitate learning that encourages critical and reflective thinking rather than mere memorization. The article recommends teacher training and the development of curated digital media to ensure that their application effectively strengthens historical awareness among the younger generation.
